How long has it been in business?
Guitar Star Instruction has been in operation for over thirty years providing guitar, bass, ukulele and mandolin lessons covering all styles of music to students aged 7 to 70.
Who started it?
Peter Cocolla is the founder and main instructor who started giving lessons as a Student Teacher while attending The Hartford Conservatory. He started his own Instruction Service after the Conservatory from humble beginnings in his parents' basement in West Hartford to driving home to home, followed by lessons in his first apartment studio to his current custom designed, full service studio in his home in Newington, CT. (Read more about Pete at his Credentials page.)
What is the Teaching Approach?
It has been found after decades of experience and thousands of students that the winning approach is to:
- Teach each student “real music” using the best instruction books available.
- Gradually incorporate various exercises, drills, warm-ups and techniques to increase physical skills and dexterity.
- Achieve ultimate application through instruction of all types of songs of interest to each student.
In the end, this is the fastest and most complete way to learn any instrument with thorough knowledge and skill which produces a student who is competent, creative, confident and independent.
